Hi Everyone, this is Phyllis,
Before I tell you about our day, I want to clear up the bear story. It was hard for me to believe that so many of you commenting that you thought the person getting out of the van and going across the road to take a picture of a bear, was me. Well, it was !!!! I wanted a picture of that critter and the only way to get a good one, even with my zoom, was to go over there. Yes, I knew he could move faster than me, but the distance between him and myself, and the van and myself was equal, so the odds were pretty good in my favor. Besides when I went over there, all the people just sitting in their cars got out, so he would have had a lot to choose from.
Now for today. We never seem to get an early start, so drove to Dawson Creek for breakfast. Found a really neat place called Lee's Family Resturant and boy was the food good. We then found the 0 mile sign post for the start of the Alaska Highway, and got our picture taken by some people from Texas. As we traveled on we stopped to see a curved wooden bridge that was built by the army building the highway. It is the longest in North America. We also stopped at Charlie Lake, where several army men drowned while trying to cross the lake on a big homemade pontoon, with a dozer on board. A squall came up and the dozer shifted and it all went into the lake. There was a really neat memorial to the men who died.
We lost our common sense and stopped at a place called Shepherds Inn, where we knew there were lots of good eats, Ila had Dutch Apple Pie with ice cream. Phyllis had strawberry/rhubarb pie and ice cream, and Linda had a huge cinnamon roll (see picture). This resturant was owned by a very nice Christian Couple and we enjoyed visiting with her. Also met a family headed for Texas from Anchorage. He is in the Air Force and they are relocating. Weare spending the night at Fort Nelson,BC.. and are in a new time zone. It is Pacific Time, so we are two hours behind you. Those of you who think we are going to end up in the Pacific Ocean, need to draw a line from Oskaloosa to Fort Nelson and you will see we are going north and well as west. Today we got stopped along the road by the law. No jail time was required. Glad you are all enjoying our escapades and please keep us in your prayers.

I guess I will be the first to ask, who was driving when the law decided to pull you over? It was probably from driving to slow! Isn't that how the older generation drives?
Glad to see you are not starving yourselves.
Don't worry, Howard, I was going to ask too - you must have just read it first. :) Who got pulled over and what did you do wrong? Did you get a ticket?
OK, what did you girls do wrong??? And the really important question is ........ was the trooper cute?? :}
